The nuns’ basic needs and pocket money are met by the Nunnery. For the present, they are supported through the kindness of sponsors. Monies received goes into a common fund from which their requirements such as food, clothing, medicines and educational materials are provided for. Nuns are expected to live as simply as possible.

A sponsor is sent a personal letter from the nun allocated, along with her photograph and a brief background. The nuns appreciate receiving letters from their sponsors and enjoy writing in reply. Nuns also write to their sponsors at Tibetan New Year (Losar).

A contribution of US$365, just US$1 per day, covers the living expenses for a whole year of one of the nuns currently living and studying at Dongyu Gatsal Ling Nunnery.
